Celebrate the opening day of the 2008 Beijing Olympics with a sport that won’t be in competition this year, but perhaps should: hula hooping. For the second celebration of World Hoop Day, hula hoop artists will be donating hoops, lessons, games and prizes to kids. Buy a custom-made hoop or bring your own. All over the world, simultaneously, hoopers will be swinging their hips in honor of World Hoop Day. Plus, hula hooping, if you didn’t already know, is great exercise. With appearances by the HoopGirl Allstars, Miss Rosie of Hooliehoop, Hoopin’ Annie (founder of World Hoop Day), Hooppain and others.

1-8 p.m. Fri. Free. Treasure Island’s Great Lawn, Treasure Island, S.F. www.worldhoopday.org.
